UV Green Lancers Complete Historic Four-Peat in CESAFI Season 25 Finals

The University of the Visayas Green Lancers completed a historic four-peat after defeating the University of Cebu Webmasters, 85-77, in the deciding game of the CESAFI Season 25 basketball finals on December 13 at the Cebu Coliseum, extending their legacy as the most successful college team in league history.
From a double-overtime classic to a dominant championship finish, the UV Green Lancers delivered a finals performance that will long be remembered by the Visayan community.
The championship series opened with a dramatic double-overtime victory for UV in Game 1, where the Green Lancers edged the Webmasters, 74-72. League MVP Raul Gentallan sealed the win with a clutch basket in the closing seconds of the second overtime, finishing with an all-around performance that included points, rebounds, assists, and key defensive stops. Kent Ivo Salarda and the rest of the Lancers provided steady support in a tightly contested opener that set the tone for the series.
As the finals progressed, the entire UV community rallied behind the Green Lancers, showing unified support as the team pushed closer to another championship. Wearing green and cheering together, Visayanians once again demonstrated the strong culture of pride, sportsmanship, and excellence that defines the university.
In the deciding match, the Lancers showcased their championship pedigree with an explosive offensive run bridging the third and fourth quarters. Trailing late in the third period, Gentallan and Albert Sacayan sparked a decisive rally with back-to-back three-point shots that shifted momentum firmly in UV’s favor. The surge opened a commanding lead that the Webmasters could no longer overcome.
Gentallan led the balanced attack with 19 points, while Sacayan added 13 markers. Salarda delivered a double-double and capped the season by earning his second Most Valuable Player award in three years. Under the guidance of coach Gary Cortes, the Green Lancers secured their seventh overall title in a record-equalling ninth straight finals appearance since 2015.
With the four-peat, the Green Lancers further strengthened their standing as the winningest college basketball team in CESAFI’s 25-year history, now boasting 17 championships. The milestone adds to a storied legacy that includes a remarkable nine consecutive titles during the league’s early years and championship runs under multiple coaching eras.
