UV Welcomes Dr. Janos Vizcayno Jr. as Green Lancers’ Team Physician

The University of the Visayas proudly welcomed Cebuano orthopedic doctor Janos Vizcayno Jr. as the Sports Medicine Team Physician of the UV Green Lancers basketball team.
Dr. Janos Vizcayno Jr., a seasoned orthopedic specialist with international sports medicine training, was formally appointed as the UV Green Lancers’ team physician on August 13 by UV Assistant Vice President for Finance and Administration Jose Miguel “J-Mi” Gullas.
The appointment ceremony took place in the presence of UV Athletic Director Dr. Chris Mejarito, strength and conditioning coach Roger Justine Potot, and members of the Green Lancers team.
“Grateful to be part of the UV family,” said Vizcayno. “I was entrusted with this role because of my background in sports medicine and commitment to athlete care. I assure the team of my full support, professionalism, and dedication to keeping our players healthy, safe, and game-ready.”
At 40, Vizcayno has extensive training at St. Luke’s Medical Center Institute of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine under Dr. Jose Raul Canlas, and at Tokyo Advance Orthopedics–Sports and Joint Center in Japan. His expertise includes advanced shoulder surgery, sports medicine, and joint replacement for adults.
He is a well-known figure in Cebu sports, having served in leagues such as the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL), Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, and the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Cebu leg. He also contributed as part of the medical team during Cebu City’s hosting of the Palarong Pambansa last year.
