A festive atmosphere filled the University of the Visayas (UV) Main Campus as students, faculty, and administrators gathered for the annual “Panagtimbaya 2025: Together We Celebrate” on August 11, 2025, at the UV Gymnasium. Cheers echoed throughout the venue as departments showcased performances that embodied Visayanian pride.
The University of the Visayas officially opened Academic Year 2025–2026 through its Panagtimbaya 2025 celebration, themed “Transformation through Innovation and Excellence,” welcoming both new and returning students with inspiring messages and vibrant presentations.
“Panagtimbaya,” meaning “to greet,” has long been a tradition that marks the start of every academic year at UV. Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Anna Lou Cabuenas reminded students that the university is their second home — a place where they are safe, respected, and supported.
University President Dr. Conrado Iñigo Jr. echoed this message of encouragement, quoting American philosopher Henry David Thoreau: “Men are born to succeed, not fail.” He urged students to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, to believe in their potential, and to harness the power of imagination in achieving success.
The event showcased lively performances from the UV Drums and Bugle Corps, UV Filipiniana Dance Group, UV Unplugged, and spirited college cheer chants from CAS, CETA, CAHS, COED, COME, CBA, GLS, and CCJE.
Also in attendance were Vice President for Finance and Quality Management System Dr. Rosemarie Cruz Español, senior university leaders, faculty members, and student representatives.
