UV and Zonta Club of Cebu 1 join forces for women’s empowerment and community outreach

The University of the Visayas (UV) has officially partnered with the Zonta Club of Cebu 1, a local chapter of Zonta International, through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on August 8, 2024, at the UV Boardroom.

This collaboration aims to create lasting impacts in education, empowerment, and community service, with a strong focus on advancing women's rights.

The MOA signing was led by UV President Dr. Conrado E. Iñigo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Anna Lou C. Cabuenas, Dean of the College of Education (COED) Dr. Aileen C. Costas, Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) Coordinator Ms. Carodina Ginolos, Students Internship Program of the Philippines (SIPP) Coordinator Ms. Juliena Diaz, and Director for Community Extension Services Dr. Jezreel M. Tanilon.

Dr. Iñigo emphasized the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable community development.

"𝐼 𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑎 𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑓𝑟𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑓𝑢𝑙 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒," he said.

Zonta Club of Cebu 1 President Zn. Melita T. Ramos expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, seeing it as a vital step toward enhancing their outreach and impact within the community.

"𝑊𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑎𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡, 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑛 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑔𝑒 𝑙𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑏𝑢𝑡𝑒 𝑠𝑖𝑔𝑛𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑛 𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑓𝑢𝑙𝑙 𝑝𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑙," Ramos said. "𝐴𝑔𝑒 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑑𝑒𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔."

A key component of the partnership is "Project REACH" (Reading for Empowerment, Achievement, and Comprehensive Holistic Development), a community outreach initiative presented by Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) Coordinator Ms. Niña Bienna Marie Monterde. The proposal was approved during the ceremony, marking the formal launch of the initiative.

The formal tie-up included a symbolic turnover of a check from Zonta Club of Cebu 1 to UV, further solidifying the partnership.

This collaboration sets the stage for impactful community service and the empowerment of young women leaders at UV, fostering a brighter future for all involved.
