UV Baby Lancers Shine as Torchbearers at 64th Palarong Pambansa Opening

The University of the Visayas (UV) proudly showcased its sportsmanship as Kenneth Calvin Cole, team captain of the UV Baby Lancers basketball squad, stood among the distinguished torchbearers at the grand inauguration of the 64th Palarong Pambansa. The event, graced by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr., commenced with a spectacular ceremony at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Cole, alongside local icons such as acting Cebu City Vice Mayor Dondon Hontiveros and sporting sensations like Mary Antoneth Cortes of University of San Jose-Recoletos and dancesport star Wilfred Aunzo, ignited the symbolic urn, marking the beginning of a thrilling week-long tournament for grade school athletes nationwide.

Meanwhile, at the UV-Main Gym on July 10, the elementary boys' 5x5 basketball competition kicked off with intense matchups featuring the country's top young talents. Representing Central Visayas (Region VII), the Minglanilla Central Elementary School aims to clinch the coveted title on home turf, setting their sights on dethroning defending champions from Western Visayas (Region VI).

Under the expert guidance of coaches Richard Evangelista and Joshua Cañada, the Central Visayas team boasts a roster including Arkin Alferez, Dwayne Alidon, Lucas Paul de la Cruz, and others, all geared up to elevate their game and bring glory to their region.

The UV community rallies behind their teams, wishing them success and celebrating their spirit of sportsmanship and excellence in this prestigious national sporting event.
