UV hosts a seminar on PQF, digital education

Dubbed as "Talkathon: PQF and Innovation in Learning," the University of the Visayas organized a seminar on Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF) and digital education last October 4, 2024 at the Inday Teresing Auditorium.
The speakers were Dr. Rosita Navarro and Dr. Paz I. Lucido, chairperson and board member of the Board for Professional Teachers of the Philippine Regulation Commission, respectively.
In her lecture, Dr. Navarro, a former university president, talked about the milestones of PQF and how this educational framework enhances the quality and standards of educattion.
Moreover, she outlined how the PQF serves as a pathway for educators to improve their qualifications in meeting the demands of the education sector.
Dr. Navarro also shared various teaching and learning styles suitable for different levels of learners, particularly the concept of pedagogy, andragogy and heutagogy.
She also emphasized on the importance of assessment and evaluation in the teaching and learning process.
For her part, Dr. Lucido focused on the impact of digital transformation on teaching and learning.
She then encouraged everyone to adapt to the changes in preparing the students for the rapidly changing world.
“We have to adapt to the future of education, and it is only after we truly understand the learning process that we can proceed,” she said.
After which, another guest speaker from Staten Island University Hospital, Northwell Health, New York, Cardiac Critical Care Dr. Martin Miguel I. Amor, elaborated on how technology has reshaped educational practices.
Dr. Amor demonstrated various applications and digital tools that could help prepare teachers for the advancement of teaching in today’s generation.
Thereafter, Dr. Lucido ended the discussion with a call to action, reminding the educators to be open-minded and proactive in adapting their teaching methods.
“We are not just preparing our students for exams or for their careers; we are preparing them for a world where technology is embedded in every aspect of life,” she said.
“Let’s continue to inspire, innovate, and ignite our students towards success in the digital age, and the time is now,” she added.
University President Dr. Conrado E. Iñigo, Jr., in his message during the event, emphasized to the UV community the significance of continuous innovation in education.
Dr. Iñigo also thanked all the UV teachers, whom he referred to as heroes, for their selfless dedication in providing education to thousands of Visayanian students, in line with the celebration of World Teachers' Day.
The College of Education spearheaded the holding of the said seminar.
The hybrid event was attended by all faculty members across campuses along with the vice presidents, deans, principals, coordinators, non-teaching staff, and teacher education students.
