Visayanians Honored and Victorious at CESAFI 25th Anniversary

On September 10–11, 2025, University of the Visayas (UV) athletes and leaders shone at the first-ever CESAFI Hall of Fame Awards and clinched a thrilling win in the “Sanciangko Clasico,” underscoring the school’s legacy in sports and excellence.

The Cebu Coliseum buzzed with pride and excitement as Visayanians made their mark in both recognition and competition during the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) silver anniversary festivities.

During the Hall of Fame Awards on September 11, Cebuano basketball legend Elmer “Boy” Cabahug, hardcourt star Paul Desiderio, and former volleyball standout Jade Becalso were among the inaugural honorees for their outstanding contributions to CESAFI’s sporting tradition. UV Cultural and Athletic Director Dr. Chris Mejarito was also commended for his invaluable role in nurturing the league’s growth since its founding in 2001.

Adding to the celebration, the UV Green Lancers outlasted the University of Cebu Webmasters, 85–83, in the “Sanciangko Clasico” on September 10. Paul Desiderio sealed the victory with a dramatic three-pointer in the final seconds, finishing with 10 points. Emman Calo powered the Lancers with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while teammates Gayford Rodriguez, Jancork Cabahug, and Adrian Lao combined for 32 points, 23 rebounds, and six assists to secure the win for their alma mater.
