UVFDG Clinches Third Straight CESAFI Dance Title

The UV Filipiniana Dance Group made history on September 10, 2025, by capturing their third consecutive championship in the CESAFI Contemporary Dance Contest, a remarkable achievement coinciding with the league’s silver anniversary.
Thunderous cheers filled the Cebu Coliseum as the University of the Visayas Filipiniana Dance Group (UVFDG) once again dazzled the crowd with their powerful storytelling through dance.
Their winning performance depicted the inspiring journey of UV alumnus and basketball star Elmer “Boy” Cabahug, from his student years to his rise as a Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legend. The creative choreography highlighted perseverance, discipline, and the university’s rich basketball tradition.
Performer Kier Roli Rondez shared that selecting Coach Cabahug’s story was both a heartfelt tribute and an opportunity to honor his lasting impact on the UV community. Rondez even met with Cabahug personally to gain deeper insight into his life before incorporating it into the piece.
Dr. Cresencio Mejarito, UV Athletics and Culture Director, lauded the dancers for their exceptional artistry and reminded them to remain humble amid success. Their feat strengthens UV’s reputation for excellence in sports and culture alike.
