UV Hosts JFINEX Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition

The University of the Visayas (UV), through the College of Business Administration (CBA), hosted the Cebu elimination round of the 24th Junior Financial Executives (JFINEX) Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition (ICFC) on November 22, 2024, at the Inday Teresing Auditorium, 8th floor, Inday Pining Building.

Junior-FINEX, spearheaded by the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX), has championed financial literacy for over 20 years through ICFC, an organization that promotes excellence in business and finance, making it the longest-running and most prestigious finance competition in the country.

This year’s elimination rounds took place online across seven locations, including UV for the Cebu region.

The Cebu elimination round featured teams from 12 institutions: University of the Visayas, Cebu Institute of Technology-University, Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria, Foundation University, Holy Name University, Southwestern University PHINMA, University of Cebu-Banilad Campus, University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, and University of the Philippines Tacloban College.

Dr. Rosemarie Cruz-Español, CBA dean and Vice President for Finance and Quality Management System, delivered the welcome remarks.

Meanwhile, ICFC Board of Judges member and former FINEX President (1994), Franklin F. Ysaac, explained the rules and mechanics of the competition.

The program also included a practice session facilitated by Ms. Jazmaine Fortuna, followed by a rigorous two-phase competition: 20 moderate-difficulty questions in the elimination round and 15 challenging questions in the final round.

Moderated by Business Administration Program Coordinator Dr. Philip M. Almanon, the event culminated in the announcement of the top 20 schools advancing to the championship, where De La Salle University-Manila claimed the title of ICFC champions.

The University of the Visayas expressed pride in hosting this prestigious event, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and innovation in education.
