UV Conducts R.A.C.E. Against Suicide Seminar

THE Student Affairs and Services Center (SASC) conducted the R.A.C.E. Against Suicide seminar on November 22, 2024, at the HRM Function Hall, UV-Main Campus.
As part of its Tatak Visayanian: Lig-on nga Visayanian program, the seminar aimed to raise awareness about suicide prevention, promote resilience, and create a culture of empathy within the university community.
Participants included students, employees, guidance associates, homeroom advisers, and mental health advocates, all united under the slogan, "Don't just survive—thrive."
In her discussion, Dr. Nhelba Yglesia, a member of the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association, highlighted strategies for resilience and shared actionable steps to foster mental health, emphasizing the role of communication, community support, and personal empowerment in preventing suicide.
In line with this, participants engaged in a forum facilitated by College of Education (COED) Guidance Associate Ms. Ricky Mae Boniao, allowing open dialogue and shared experiences, reinforcing solidarity through the hashtag #YoureNotAlone.
In an interview, SASC Director Dr. Anna Kathrina Oaminal-Watin expressed that the seminar embodies the university's motto, A University with a Heart, stating, “To thrive, we must first make efforts to survive."
The program concluded with an awarding ceremony led by Human Resource Director for Learning and Development Mr. Mark Anthony Ruiz, followed by closing remarks from College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) Guidance Associate Ms. Concepcion Batiller.
Present were Guidance Associate and UV Board of Trustees Member Mr. Vince Lucero and Vice-President for Administration Mr. Elmer Ocaba.
