Visayanians Celebrate UV Green Lancers' CESAFI Grand Slam With Bonfire

With joy and pride in their hearts, the Visayanian community celebrated the UV Green Lancers' remarkable three-peat and the Baby Lancers' history-making achievement in last year's Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament with a bonfire on Thursday night, February 13, at the UV-Main Campus quadrangle.

The Green Lancers under the guidance of coach Gary Cortes basked in the glory of their third straight championship glory in the college division of CESAFI Season 24.

Overall, it was Cortes' sixth crown in eight consecutive finals appearances since he assumed the role as Lancers' head coach in 2015.

The Baby Lancers, behind the tutelage of Jun Pepito and Ronaldo Bucao, also hogged the limelight during the special ceremony for setting a record as CESAFI'S first ever Under 15 champions. Additionally, the Baby Lancers lifted the first runner-up trophy in high school category.

UV bigwigs came in full force to grace the memorable event led by UV Executive Board Chairman Gerald Anthony "Didi" Gullas, Vice Chairman Joselito "Jiji" Gullas, Board treasurer Dr. Leopold Gullas-Lucero, Board of Trustees Jose Miguel "J-Mi" Gullas and Vince Lucero, and Lancers team manager Eduardo "Digul" Gullas III.

Also present during the momentous occasion were UV President Dr. Conrado Iñigo Jr., Vice President for Finance and Quality Management System Dr. Rosemarie Cruz-Español, VP for Academic Affairs Dr. Anna Lou Cabuenas, VP for Administration Elmer Ocaba, Student Affairs and Services Center (SASC) Director Dr. Anna Katrina Oaminal-Watin, Athletic Director Dr. Chris Mejarito as well as the different deans, directors, academic heads, principals, student body, and some parents.

Aside from their heroes on the hardcourt, the Visayanians also paid tribute to their top achievers in lawn tennis, karatedo, scrabble and beach volley together with their coaches.
