Program Description

The Gullas Law School offers a four-year course in Legal Education, leading to the esteemed degree of Bachelor of Laws. This program also includes paralegal training for those aspiring to take the Bar examinations and qualify for the practice of law as a noble profession. The Bachelor of Laws degree spans four years, organized into semesters, and serves as the fundamental qualification in Legal Education. It presupposes a collegiate or university bachelor's degree, laying the groundwork for a profound understanding of the intricacies of legal practice.

Gullas Law School is committed to delivering a legal education that not only prepares students for the practice of law but also fosters critical thinking, practical application, and a commitment to social justice. The esteemed faculty, under the leadership of Dean Atty. Joseph Randi C. Torregosa and Associate Dean Atty. Darling Chyrmyth Wagas-Estorgio, is dedicated to guiding students on their journey to becoming ethical and competent legal professionals.

Program Outcomes

Upon the completion of the Juris Doctor Program, graduates are expected to possess:

  • Advanced Knowledge and Skills: Acquire advanced knowledge, skills, and values in a specialized, interdisciplinary, or multidisciplinary field for professional work and lifelong learning (PQF Level 8).
  • Innovative and Creative Work: Demonstrate innovative, creative work and research in the field of law with practical knowledge, skills, and values necessary for the application of the law, delivery of legal services, and promotion of social justice and public interest (PQF Level 8).
  • High Independence: Display a high degree of independence with minimal supervision when practicing law individually or in multi-disciplinary teams (PQF Level 8).
  • Application of Skills: Apply acquired skills in research, professional, or creative work.
Pedagogical Approaches

To address the diverse needs of our students, Gullas Law School employs the following pedagogical approaches:

  • Collaborative Approach: Encouraging open discussions between students and faculty, fostering an environment where ideas can be freely exchanged.
  • Constructivist Approach: Acknowledging students as active contributors of knowledge, enhancing their legal knowledge with practical applications provided by experienced faculty.
  • Inquiry-based Approach: Promoting critical and creative thinking skills by applying legal theories to various scenarios and practical problems.
Teaching Methodologies

The faculty at Gullas Law School employs a combination of teaching methods tailored to each subject:

  • Case Method: Focusing on studying relevant case law to highlight principles and prevailing doctrines.
  • Clinic Method and/or Experiential Learning: Providing practical scenarios for hands-on learning, especially in Practicum and Clinical Legal Education subjects.
  • Interactive Method: Involving students in simulated legal situations such as Mock Trials or Moot Courts.
  • Lecture Method: Utilizing traditional oral presentations supplemented by visual aids.
  • Socratic Method: Conducting oral recitations to develop analytical and critical thinking skills.
Assessment and Feedback

Maintaining a symbiotic relationship between faculty and students is crucial. To achieve this, Gullas Law School adopts the following assessment and feedback methods:

  • Formative Assessments: Regular feedback on student performance using verbal or written assessments.
  • Summative Assessments:  Administering written examinations and oral recitations to evaluate knowledge and monitor progress.
  • Performance Assessments: Assessing students' performance in legal tasks, especially in Practicum and Clinical Legal Aid subjects.
  • Criterion-referenced Assessments:  Evaluating student performance based on given standards or criteria provided in the Course Syllabus.
