Program Description

This program is designed to strengthen the professional competence of English language teachers. It is geared toward the pedagogical application of theoretical principles derived from the fields of linguistics, literary criticism, and other allied disciplines. It exposes the English language teachers to the current approaches to and theories of the systems of English; second language acquisition theories and the impact that these have on English language teaching pedagogy, and the integration of digitalized tools in the teaching of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to meet the contemporary needs of their students. Moreover, the program fully prepares the graduate students with research-based principles and appropriate strategies as bases in conceptualizing a responsive program delivery of English language teaching.


Program Policies
  Qualification for Admission

This program is open to graduates of bachelor’s degree in elementary or secondary education or its equivalent. Students entering from fields other than education must have completed a minimum of 18 units of undergraduate professional education.

  Reminders
  • An INC grade will be given to students who failed to comply with the final requirements of the course;
  • INC grade should be complied within one year, otherwise a grade of 5.0 will automatically be reflected on the report card;
  • The maximum units to be enrolled for each trimester should be strictly observed;
  • A comprehensive examination will be given after the completion of all Level 1 courses;
  • The Thesis writing course can only be taken after passing the comprehensive examination;
  • A schedule for Proposal Hearing and Final Oral Defense will be posted. Application must be made within the approved schedule only;
  Compre Exam / Terminal Paper

After completing the academic requirements of 36 units, the doctorand can apply for the Comprehensive Examination which will cover the basic courses, major courses, and cognate courses.

  Requirments for Graduation

Six (6) Hardbound copies and a soft copy of publicly defended practice-based dissertation.
