PhD major in Research Management and Development


Program Description

The program prepares the graduate students to become practitioners in research with competence in both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. Emphasis is on the application of different research designs and statistical methodologies in making evaluation and drawing inferences about social science problems, with special focus on methods of data collection, assessment, policy issues and analysis of data. Upon completion, the students must have developed and critically evaluated concepts, principles and theories in specialized disciplines, generated new knowledge through the ethical conduct of scholarly and innovative studies, published, disseminated and utilized research knowledge, and lead in the development of research culture in both academic and non-academic communities.


Program Policies
  Qualification for Admission

The student should have completed a master’s thesis program in Education. The student entering from a non-thesis master’s program in education is required to complete Methods and Statistics of Research in the Master’s degree level. Those entering from fields other than education are required to take a minimum of twelve units of undergraduate or graduate professional education subjects in addition to other degree requirements.

  Reminders
  • An INC grade will be given to students who failed to comply with the final requirements of the course;
  • INC grade should be complied within one year, otherwise a grade of 5.0 will automatically be reflected on the report card;
  • The maximum units to be enrolled for each trimester should be strictly observed;
  • A comprehensive examination will be given after the completion of all Level 1 courses;
  • The Thesis writing course can only be taken after passing the comprehensive examination;
  • A schedule for Proposal Hearing and Final Oral Defense will be posted. Application must be made within the approved schedule only;
  Compre Exam / Terminal Paper

After completing the academic requirements of 36 units, the doctorand can apply for the Comprehensive Examination which will cover the basic courses, major courses, and cognate courses.

  Requirments for Graduation
  • Six (6) Hardbound copies and a soft copy of publicly defended practice-based dissertation.
  • At least one (1) publication in a refereed journal or juried creative work.
