CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

The Center for Research and Development anchored its standpoint of the University of the Visayas vision “By 2019, the University of the Visayas is a research driven university geared toward s the development of the human capital imbued with social conscientiousness” and its mission, to attain its vision, the university lives-up to the following:

The Center for Research and Development supports the University of the Visayas in the conduct of research endeavors from conceptualization, production, publication, dissemination, utilization, extension, transfer and commercialization.

The center shall ensure the accountability for the effectiveness of the system, ensure that the quality objectives are continually reviewed and revised annually, and communicated and understood by CRD and CRU staff, and faculty, non –teaching and students researchers and promote the use of a process-based and risk-based thinking approach

The University’s Objectives is to come up with outcomes based and research oriented academic resources across all disciplines, to increase faculty and students involvement in research undertakings, to raise the number of publish research outputs and to have the students acquired the attitude, knowledge and beginning skills in conceptualizing a research study, designing research, measuring and collecting data, analyzing research data ang communicating research result emphasizing research as an evidence building enterprise that in crucial for practice.

The Center for Research and Development distinguishes the importance of recognizing, encouraging  and supporting employees in professional development activities that are related to their research-related roles in the university. The university through the Center for Research and Development is responsible for identifying, creating, and providing opportunities for development and training to enhance and build the capability, skills, excellence and professionalism as researches to enable them to contribute effectively and creatively to the university’s vision.

This is the center’s procedure of inquiring the faculty members what they see as the most important needs as faculty and institutional research. The needs assessment will be the basis for Research Training Plan.

The research training is designed to prepare faculty/researchers to become independent and productive researchers after completing research training. The importance of enunciating research, capability-building and knowledge management and design of the training and capability –building programs.

Evaluation of research training is one aspects of Data and Training Management  Office the impact of the training programs and evaluate optimize the use of research-based evidence.

It will assess the usefulness of training or if the programs fails to help participants is utilizing the application process.

Institutional Research Utilization is under Dissemination and Utilization Management Office which ensures the making use of evidence to policies, programs and practice to come up with quality outcomes. Data utilization includes various approaches including partner’s engagement and collaborative research, the use of key figures, use of learning representatives, and correspondence, and is bi-directional. It links current research with opportunities to inform policy, program, and practice. It encourage the utilization of experience from projects, strategies, and practice to educate new research agenda or motivation.

STAT-HUV  is the official statistical and data analysis center of the University of the Visayas  established on January 12,2013. This was intuited to assist faculty, students and staff of the University an catered to external researcher in the statistical an qualitative data analysis tailored to varied research requirements and enable clients to produce outcomes that contribute significantly to their institution, and society.

To stablish good governance and quality assurance in research, Institutional Review Board (IRB) was established on April 29, 2015 to fulfill the university’s intention to institutionalize a compendium of ethical guidelines and to establish a standard measure for excellence by which all research studies that may fall under its coverage shall observe and to which other research organizations may also adhere, in accordance with the ethical standards accepted and recognized by both the international and the national research community and authorities, consistent with principle and ideals aspired for by and enshrined in our university’s vision and mission, its objectives  and  goal, to conserve and develop whatever knowledge acquired or discovered in the process, for the cultivation of its researchers to be responsible citizens of the world and as future trailblazers of industries in their fields of expertise ,for the benefit  of those individuals and subject communities who took part in the undertaking, for the research community as whole to profit them, and, most of all, for the common good of the society and the preservation of the environment. The Center for Research and Development of the University of the Visayas do ordain and institute the UV-CRD Ethical Guidelines and Review Process on Researchers Involving Humans Subject and the Environment. Gullas College of Medicine handless animal subject that align with the guidelines presented by Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

Institutional Review Board aspires to have pool of ethical reviewers to cater with the bulk of manuscript submitted, research ethics training-workshop was conceptualized and realized with the support of PHREB and FERCAP. The training aims for the participants to apply principle of research ethics in the conduct of various types of academic research.

Innovation and Technology Support Office was established on December 12, 2014 and  its operation are intended to assist the faculty and students in the advancement and operation of the university ITSO franchise. ITSO’s concentration is to deliver a quality and timely patents (search, drafting, application), trademarks, copyrights and other registration Knowledge and Technology Transfer office focuses on knowledge generation, transfer and commercialization. Innovation and technology research studies are address to provide a centralized point of contract for all stakeholders to engage in research translation efforts, proactively building relationships with industry for partnership, contract services, and technology licensing and becoming and conduit for faculty/student-industry collaboration.

The official research journal publication of the University of the Visayas  is named University of the Visayas journal of Research. This is a multidisciplinary publication to provide avenue for faculty, students and staff of the university to publish their research work. The multidisciplinary research journal caters to Empirical, Theoretical, Review, Methodologic and philosophical articles. UVJOR subject the author’s scholarly work to the scrutiny of the scholars with appropriate expertise based on Quality and Significance of Contribution to knowledge and/or practice, Technical Appropriateness and Ethical Consideration.
