About UV CRD

The way we do our BUSINESS

The CRD serves as a coordinating office for all research activities in the university including those that are co-sponsored with other agencies.  It also serves as a data bank of useful information for research, instruction and extension for the university and for data needed by other government and non-government agencies and individuals.

Functions of CRD

  • To establish research priority areas on the micro level in consonance with regional/national development thrusts, balanced with the research needs of the university;
  • To evaluate,  with the University Research Council,  faculty and staff research proposals and recommend for funding by the institution or by external agencies;
  • To establish linkages with other public and private, domestic and foreign agencies and organization;
  • To establish a data bank;
  • To develop policies for appropriate research operations and incentives
  • To monitor and evaluate progress of researches
  • To explore possibilities for international research presentations, funding and collaboration.
  • To assume other functions related to research

The CRD shall adopt an inter-unit, inter-disciplinary, multifunctional and inter-agency strategy in understanding and implementing research activities.  Research projects/proposals shall be in accordance with the established criteria and priorities set by the UV-URC to be approved by the University President and Executive Vice President and confirmed by the University Board of Trustees.

Completed institutional researches shall be published in scholarly refereed journals for dissemination and usability.

Quality Policy Statement of the Center for Research and Development

The Center for Research and Development supports the University of the Visayas in the conduct of research endeavors from conceptualization, production, publication, dissemination, utilization, extension, transfer and commercialization.
The center is committed to continually improve and observe a system in accordance with the requirements of:

Research Programs

The Center for Research and Development serves as a coordinating office for all research activities in the university. The Center adopts an inter-unit, interdisciplinary, multi-functional and inter-agency strategy in understanding and implementing research activities.

Research Conference

The Dissemination and Utilization Management Office was established on August 13, 2013 to circulate/share researches produced by the faculty, students and non-teaching staff through academic research conferences. Disseminating results of the researches create a more relevant and beneficial studies.
Conferences conducted were committed to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge conducted by faculty, students and non-teaching staff. Research presentations are also disseminated to other investigators, policymakers, consumers inside and outside institution.

Research Awareness, Orientation and Re-orientation of Research Activities

The Center  for Research and Development anchored its standpoint on the University of the Visayas vision “By 2019, the University of the Visayas is a research driven university geared towards the development of the human capital imbued with social conscientiousness” and its mission, to attain its vision, the university lives-up to the following:

  1. Builds and embraces a sustainable research culture among students, faculty and non-teaching staff
  2. Hones the talents and potentials of the students and employees towards the practice of professions to be responsive to the changing local and global demands of time

The center shall ensure the accountability for the effectiveness of the system, ensure that the quality policy and quality objectives are continually reviewed and revised annually, and communicated and understood by CRD and CRU staff, and faculty, non-teaching and student researchers and promote the use of a process-based and risk-based thinking approach The University’s Objectives are to come up with outcomes based and research oriented academic resources across all disciplines, to increase faculty and students involvement in research undertakings, to raise the number of publish research outputs and to have the students acquire the attitude, knowledge and beginning skills in conceptualizing a research study, designing research, measuring and collecting data, analyzing research data and communicating research result emphasizing research as an evidence building enterprise that in crucial for practice.

Faculty Research Training Needs Assessment

The Center for Research and Development distinguishes the importance of recognizing, encouraging and supporting employees in professional development activities that are related to their research-related roles in the university. The university through the Center for Research and Development is responsible for identifying, creating, and providing opportunities for development and trainings to enhance and build the capability, skills, excellence and professionalism as researches to enable them to contribute effectively and creatively to the university’s vision. This is the center’s procedure of inquiring the faculty members what they see as the most important needs for faculty and institutional research. The needs assessment will be the basis for Research Training Plan.

​The research training is designed to prepare faculty/researchers to become independent and productive researchers after completing research training. The importance of enunciating research, capability-building and knowledge management in a continuous cycle of study, learning and action, so that the research results feed into knowledge management and design of the training and capability-building programs.

Research Training Evaluation

Evaluation of research training is one aspect of Data and Training Management Office that determine the impact of the training programs and evaluate optimize the use of research-based evidence. It will assess the usefulness of training or if the programs fail to help participants in utilizing the application process.

Institutional Data Utilization

Institutional Research Utilization is under Dissemination and Utilization Management Office which ensures the making use of evidences to policies, programs and practice to come up with quality outcomes. Data utilization includes various approaches including partners’ engagement and collaborative research, the use of key figures, use of learning representatives, and promotion and correspondence, and is bi-directional. It links current research with opportunities to inform policy, programs, and practice. It encourages the utilization of experience from projects, strategies, and practice to educate new research agenda or motivation.

Stat-HUV

Stat-hUV is the official statistical and data analysis center of the University of the Visayas established on January 12, 2013. This was intuited to assist faculty, students and staff of the university and catered to external researcher in the statistical and qualitative analysis of their data for research work. The Stat-hUV hopes to promote application of appropriate and accurate statistical and qualitative data analyses tailored to varied research requirements and enable clients to produce outcomes that contribute significantly to their institution, and society.

Ethical Review (IRB)

To establish good governance and quality assurance in research, Institutional Review Board (IRB) was established on April 29, 2015 to fulfill the university’s intention to institutionalize a compendium of ethical guidelines and to establish a standard measure for excellence by which all research studies that may fall under its coverage shall observe and to which other research organizations may also adhere, in accordance with the ethical standards accepted and recognized by both the international and the national research community and authorities, consistent with principles and ideals aspired for by and enshrined in our university’s vision and mission, its objectives and goals, to conserve and develop whatever knowledge acquired or discovered in the process, for the cultivation of its researchers to be responsible citizens of the world and as future trailblazers of industries in their fields of expertise, for the benefit of those individuals and subject communities who took part in the undertaking, for the research community as whole to profit them, and, most of all, for the common good of the society and the preservation of the environment. The Center for Research and Development of the University of the Visayas do ordain and institute the UV-CRD Ethical Guidelines and Review Process on Researchers Involving Humans Subjects and the Environment.
Gullas College of Medicine handles animal subjects that align with the guidelines presented by Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) .

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (IRB)

Institutional Review Board aspires to have pool of ethical reviewers to cater with the bulk of manuscript submitted, research ethics training-workshop was conceptualized and realized with the support of PHREB and FERCAP. The training aims for the participants to apply principles of research ethics in the conduct of various types of academic research.

Knowledge Generation and Technology Transfer / Innovation Technology Support Office

Innovation and Technology Support Office was established on December 12, 2014 and its operations are intended to assist the faculty and students in the advancement and operation of the university ITSO franchise. ITSO’s concentration is to deliver a quality and timely patents  (search, drafting, application), trademarks, copyrights and other registrations
Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office focuses on knowledge generation, transfer and commercialization. Innovation and technology research studies are address to provide a centralized point of contract for all stakeholders to engage in research translation efforts, proactively building relationships with industry for partnership, contract services, and technology licensing and becoming a conduit for faculty/student-industry collaboration.

The official research journal publication of the University of the Visayas is named University of the Visayas Journal of Research. This is a multidisciplinary publication to provide avenue for faculty, students and staff of the university to publish their research work. The multidisciplinary research journal caters to Empirical, Theoretical, Review, Methodologic and Philosophical articles.
UVJOR subjects the author’s scholarly work to the scrutiny of the scholars with appropriate expertise based on Quality and Significance of Contribution to Knowledge and/or Practice, Technical Appropriateness and Ethical Consideration.
